MINI Offers Portable Navigation System

For 2007, MINI USA has combined the MINI Motoring Accessories and MotoringGear brochures into a single brochure called “The Fully Authorized, Utterly Definitive & Largely Unabridged Motorer’s Guide to the You-niverse”. Inside are many new accessories, but perhaps the most interesting is the new MINI Portable Navigation System powered by Garmin. The unit has a 3.5″ touchscreen and suction-cup dash mount. It includes maps and points-of-interest information for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico pre-loaded. The spoken text interface calls out your turns, and yes, you can choose to have it speak with a British accent. As a bonus, the MINI Portable Navigation System includes an MP3 player, audiobook reader, photo viewer, and world clock and currency converter. You can expand the capabilities by adding an SD memory card to its slot. Last but not least, it uses Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.

Beyond the external MINI branding, this GPS unit displays a small MINI on map. The MINI icon is fully customizable, you can choose the body and roof color and even add a Union Jack or checkerboard roof graphic. No other unit allows you to do that.

The MINI Portable Navigation System retails for $750. The MINI part number is 65 90 0 429 399.

  1. Interesting – Looks like MINI will just be offering the Nuvi 360 then. Big disappointment considering the price they are charging is inline with the much better 660. The Nuvi 360 has Bluetooth but not traffic unless you buy a relatively expensive add-on antenna (unlike the 660 which includes an integrated antenna)

I can’t rememeber which board I saw this but there are plenty of MINI icons to download if you have the non-MINI branded Nuvi.

    Anyway great info – thanks!

  2. I liked this ,but was waiting for the euro center mounted GPS unit. I want to see the install guide for this to see what they have for the r52 guys?

  4. Hmmm I like it! I have factory NAV now and hardly use it… I’d rather have a portable one personally. And its cheaper then the factory NAV too. 😀

  5. Just wish the MINI price was more in line with the street price of the Garmin – which is well under $500.
