Minspeed Summer Dyno Day – Part 1

This morning, Pete over at Minspeed hosted the Minspeed Summer Dyno Day ñ 2007. I will post up a complete review of the dyno runs from each of the 10 MINIs that were there later, but for now I just wanted to post a quick follow-up on Scooterís performance gains since the last dyno day.

Minspeed Summer Dyno Day 2007

If you recall from the last winter dyno day, Scooter had the following modifications installed:

JCW Exhaust
MyMini Resonator Eliminator
JCW Airbox

When we last left the dyno, the results were as follows:

Max Wheel Horsepower: 167.46hp
Max Torque: 151.72 lb-ft

Since the last dyno day, Scooter has received a few more ìgo-fast goodiesî that include:

Minspeed 15% Supercharger Reduction Pulley
Enkei Evo 6 Anthracite Wheels
Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 Tires

Now, I know that these latest additions made a big difference, but I really wanted to know exactly how much of a difference I was looking at. Temperatures were 12 degrees warmer today than in January at the last dyno day (just under 96 degrees). Luckily BahamaBart’s son Chris was at it again engineering a new contraption for air-flow management, he calls ìThe Blue Condom Mod v2.0î. Basically it is an air blower attached to aluminum tubing that is placed on top of the intercooler to simulate normal driving conditions as best as possible.

The dyno run produced an amazing jump in performance, despite the warmer temperatures:

Max Wheel Horsepower: 189.56hp
Max Torque:169.71 lb-ft

Winter Dyno Day Results

Needless to say I was tickled with these results. Furthermore, the air/fuel ratios show that the stock ECU is perfectly capable of handling an exhaust/intake/pulley combo. Could I gain an extra 5-10 horsepower from an ECU tune to lean things out a bit? Probably. Regardless, given the 11% drivetrain loss that puts the horsepower at the crank around the following:

Max Horsepower (at the crank): 210.41hp
Max Torque (at the crank): 188.39 lb-ft

Here is a graph comparing the stock dyno run and the latest run with the mods:

A big thanks to Pete from Minspeed for setting this up. Check back soon for more dyno results from the other MINIs that were run today.
