Is the NM Eng. Power Module The New Pulley?

Back when I owned my 2006 MINI Cooper S, there was one performance upgrade that just about everyone had on their supercharged MINIs that was known as the best “bang for the buck” – the supercharger reduction pulley.  The most common size was the 15% reduction pulley and it delivered about a 25 point increase in horsepower and torque for about $300-$400, including installation.

Fast-forward to today and MINIs are no longer supercharged.  The twin scroll turbo has replaced the supercharger and according to the data from our most recent dyno day, there may just be a mod that delivers about the same, if not more, “bang for the buck” for the new turbo MINIs – the NM Engineering Power Module!

Basically, this plug-and-play billet aluminum box intercepts the T-MAP sensor to deliver about an additional 3 psi of boost on its “Low – 93 Octane” setting and about 5 psi of boost on its “High – 100+ Octane” setting.   The box can be installed or removed within minutes without any detection.  NM Engineering has published dyno charts of their own F56 Cooper S showing a 23 point gain in horsepower and torque on the “Low” setting and a 44 hp and 34 ft/lbs of torque gain on the “High” setting.

During our most recent MINI dyno day, we had a variety of MINIs in attendance that provided some great comparison data, including a factory F56 JCW, stock F56 Cooper S, and an F56 Cooper S with both the JCW Tuning Kit and the NM Power Module set on “Low”.  The following graphs show how the NM-equipped MINI compared against Clark’s dyno results from August as well as the other F56s in attendance this weekend:

Please note: “NM-Equipped MINI was a 2016 F56 Cooper S with JCW Tuning Kit Exhaust and the NM Power Module set to “Low”

Needless to say, the results are pretty impressive!  Even on “Low”, the NM Eng. Power Module managed to provide about 30 points increase in horsepower and torque!  I shared these results with Jerry over at NM Engineering and he was quite pleased with what he saw.

I know there were a few MINI owners that attended the dyno day that were immediately adding the NM Power Module to their wish lists after seeing these results so I asked Jerry if he would be able to offer a discount for MotoringFun.com readers who are seeing these dyno numbers for the first time and were interested in getting one for their MINIs.  Being the MINI enthusiast that he is, he thought it was a great idea and for the rest of the month of November, NM Engineering is offering 10% off the list price of the NM Power Module when you use code “MF2015” at time of purchase.   Thanks to Jerry at NM Engineering for this great offer!

Between this deal and the deal we brought you yesterday for $560 off the JCW Pro Tuning Kit, you can snatch both of these upgrades up for a sweet deal!!

  1. Hi, how do we use the code for the NM Power Module? Do I just mention it in the comments?

I wish I lived in FL to take advantage of the Tuning kit deal at your dealership. I personally have purchased a f55 and my dealer told me that the Tuning kit was not out yet. I don’t understand why, it just needs to be 3 inches longer.

Anyways, I love what you did with Clark and look forward to seeing your journey.

  2. Just give Jerry a call at NM Engineering – (800)423-3623 – and give him the code. He will hook you up. As for the tuning kit on the F55, now that it is here on the Carbon edition F55, I am guessing the tuning kit should be available very soon for your car!
