MINI JCW Team: Laguna Seca Preview

Get ready folks!  The on-track action is about to heat up and the MINI JCW Team just may surprise you with what they will be able to do this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  Last year the team posted a top 10 finish with the non-JCW Cooper S brakes.  Now that the team has a proper OEM JCW brake system on the MINIs, it is showtime!!  I can’t wait to see what the LAP Motorsports guys put together on Saturday.  Hopefully this year they can improve with a top 5 finish, and even a win!

JCW MINI Race Team Finally Gets JCW Brakes Approved!!

For those following the LAP Motorsports JCW MINI Race Team, you undoubtedly know that the JCW MINIs the team has been racing has not been allowed to use the OEM JCW Brembo brakes on their cars.  Instead they were required to use standard Cooper S brakes, which are MUCH smaller.  Thankfully this week, IMSA approved the JCW brake kit for the team to use!!!!!

LAP Motorsports at the Sebring 150

This past weekend I was privileged to cheer on the 3 John Cooper Works MINIs from LAP Motorsports in the latest round of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Sebring International Raceway. IMG_3395

LAP Motorsports and MINI USA put on a great hospitality paddock for us MINIacs that attended the race complete with a driver meet and greet before the race and a full lunch during the race.

Video: F56 MINI Challenge Race at Brands Hatch

Check out Dan Prosser try his hand at racing the new F56 MINI Challenge car at the famous Brands Hatch raceway!!  Amazing power being put down by the Cooper S engine!!  275hp sure would be fun to drive :).  I also kinda like what they did to the front end of the F56.  I am sure the aftermarket will have an aero bumper attachment in body color soon to cover the black front bumper!

RSR Motorsports Earns Second Consecutive Win on Streets of Trois-Rivieres

The RSR MINIs have done it again! Awesome job by the whole team! Congrats Randy!!! Full press release below:

RSR Wins Trois-Rivieres

TROIS RIVIERES, QuebecóRandall Smalley and Owen Trinkler earned their second consecutive GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge win during Saturdayís race at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, putting the No. 198 RSR Motorsports MINI Cooper S at the front of the Street Tuner field.

A combination of great handling, superb driving, strategy, and quick pit stops allowed the MINI to win the two-hour Street Tuner race.

RSR Motorsports led much of the race at Trois-Rivieres in 2009, and the team knew that strategy and pit stops would be a key factor to leading the way once again. Last yearís race had few caution periods, so Smalley took advantage of an early-race caution to pit, handing over to Trinkler.

Trinkler held down a steady pace and pitted again with forty minutes remaining. He re-emerged in fifth place, with plenty of fuel and a fresh set of tires. It enabled him to work his way forward, eventually taking over first place. Trinkler held onto the spot until the checkered flag waved.

Braman MINI Track Day To Celebrate Mini’s 50th Birthday

Palm Beach’s Braman MINI will be following Vista MINI’s lead in throwing a birthday bash for the Mini on Sunday, June 14th. Braman appears to be putting out all the stops for this event – a full day at the track for ALL Mini/MINI clubs to attend. This is the first time I have seen a local dealer in South Florida attract MINIacs from all over the state for a dealer event. It should be a lot of fun and a great chance to see people you don’t get to see except for larger events like Mickey and MINI.

Braman MINI 50th Birthday Bash

MINIacs will be able to try their hand at autocross, a road course and even try out their MINIs on the drag strip at the newly renovated Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Morosso). A live band, “Ever So Klever”, will be performing and there will be plenty to do for the whole family. An event flyer is located at the link below, so if you are in the “region”, come on out and say hi!

Video: Homestead Track Weekend 2009

Another great track weekend is in the books. As usual, a fun time was had by all. The weekend started off at a fast pace with the MINIs laying down some fast laps. A few Porsche drivers came over to the MINI garage to examine more closely why they were getting passed by these little cool cars. I am happy to report everyone finished the weekend safe and sound, even though the grass at the speedway is a little shorter after some of the lawn mowing that took place;). Here is a video from one of my sessions. It starts off slow, but gets going pretty good… Enjoy!
