Reserve a Smart Car For $99

Auto Date Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

I know this is not a MINI Cooper, but I think it is “mini” nonetheless. If you want to get a jumpstart on the 2008 Smart car, Smart USA will be taking reservations on their website for $99. If you don’t end up buying the car, you get your money back. Prices range from $12,000 - $17,000. If you reserve one, let us know!

    We had one of the very few smart dealerships here(pittsburgh) in the US( I think there are 8 dealers in the US in 2006). They were overcharging by 5,000 dollars inorder to have a smart car in 2006. 18,000 and up for a basic smart….not the amg smart. Which is still much slower then a MINI cooper w/ auto.

    one of first Smart Car dealerships.They came to the www.pvgp.com. Which most are test dealers. Not connected to the Merc delarship like i saw in Canada. They are attached to Merc the same as MINI is attached to BMW in Canada.

    @spyman
    That’s not true, on the smart web site ( www.smartusa.com )it says that the new smart coming to America will cost under $12K for the entry model, under $14K for the well equipped model and under $17K for the convertible. The smarts that you are seeing must be the older European model that is retrofitted to meet American standards. The cars that will be coming in 2008 are different than those because they are built to American standards so they won’t have to be marked up. Also the new model offers better features and more horsepower.

    Just in case there is any misunderstanding, Bryn (above) is correct on all counts. I know. I’m a fan. I have a reservation.

    With the exception of special marketing events, until the first quarter of *2008*, any smart fortwo that you might see on US roads/dealers is a retrofitted European 2005-2006 model(or “first generation”).

    Back when it seemed like the car would never make it to the USA, a grey market developed. *Those* cars do indeed sell for anywhere from $24k-$30k. These cars are not recognized by smart or Daimler.

    The prices Bryn quoted for the second generation fortwo are indeed what is posted on the smartusa.com, and what was included on various PR releases.
