Video: MTTS 2008 – Day 1

Between catching up on sleep and trying to figure out how to use my new Mac, I feel like I am playing catch-up lately after last weekend’s MINI Takes The States kick-off in Miami. I finally got to play with iMovie ’08 and posted my first Mac-editted video.

This video pretty much sums up the first day of MINI Takes The States 2008 for the Sunshine MINI group. We spent the majority of the day traveling South. Since our members are spread out over such a large geographic area, we decided to meet in a central location for lunch – the Queen Mary British Pub in Jupiter, FL. Huge thanks to Neal from the pub for putting on such a wonderful buffet. Also, special thanks to Tom Bush MINI and Downtown MINI for picking up the tab!

After a wonderful meal, about 40 MINIs hit the road to continue South to Vista MINI in Coconut Creek, where the friendly staff had prepared an awesome pit stop for us, complete with refreshments and goodie bags. They also prepared a police escort for us to get us to the Florida Turnpike easily. Of course, even with a police escort, you still have to read the signs to know whether to go North or South. If you watch the video closely, you will notice we lost half of our caravan getting on the Turnpike due to some drivers heading North. Luckily, there was a rest stop a short distance away so we re-grouped and continued on our way.

Once we got down to Florida City, where we were all staying (South Beach hotels were crazy expensive and Florida City is right next to the Speedway), a few of us decided to keep heading South to Key Largo for a nice dinner in the Florida Keys. We then headed over to Bicentennial Park for the MTTS movie night, where the feature presentation was National Treasure 2. While I was there, we got to see Nicholas Cage!;) Very cool! There were a few hundred MINI/Minis on hand and it was cool to see them all parked together.

Once the movie was over, we headed back to the hotel and socialized for a while. We tried to not stay up too late, given the fact that Saturday was going to come pretty early.

I am still working on Day 2’s video. Hopefully I will get a chance to finish that up in the next couple of days. Until then, enjoy Day 1’s video and, if you have not done so, check out the MTTS photo gallery.
