Review: Minspeed 15% Pulley

For those who don’t know, last month I pulled the trigger on the next logical step in the search for more power under the bonnet – the Minspeed 15% supercharger pulley. If you recall, back at the Minspeed (MyMini) Winter Dyno Day, my 2006 MINI Cooper S was upgraded from stock status to modded status with the addition of the JCW intake and JCW exhaust with the Minspeed resonator eliminator. Those two mods put a grin on my face from the increased torque and enhanced sound, but nothing can compare to what was to follow next. Enter the pulley…

I dropped off my MINI at Minspeed early one morning before work and Pete was there to greet me and offer me a ride to my office. Can you say full-service? Pete assured me that my Scooter would be well taken care of and off I went to try to get some work done, while anxiously awaiting the call that Scooter came through ok. A few hours went by and I felt like a relative waiting for a family member to get out of surgery. The call finally came shortly before lunch and I headed over to pick up my “new” car.

When I arrived at the shop, Pete threw me the keys and told me to go take Scooter for a spin. Of course I wasted no time and hopped in. I slowly pulled out of the parking lot and headed over to the stop light. When the light turned green, I opened up the throttle and was just BLOWN AWAY by the amount of power available throughout the rev range. HOLY COW! It was like I was driving a completely different car. The amount of torque at my disposal was simply amazing, even in 5th and 6th gear. The supercharger whine from the JCW intake was noticeably louder and sweeter, which added to the enhanced motoring experience.

I returned back to Minspeed and as I walked in, Pete informed me that the grin on my face told him that I was happy. I thanked him for all he did and got back in the car to search out the nearest interstate on-ramp :). As I made the turn onto the interstate, I took the opportunity to merge in a “spirited” manner. Ok let’s face it, I dropped the hammer. The entire front end of the car about lifted off the ground as I went through the gears! I literally became giddy. As so many have said before, this is really how the MINI should come from the factory.

If you are on the fence about this mod, I STRONGLY recommend it. It will be like getting a whole new car again. The Minspeed pulley sells for $120 and can be found at Minspeed.net.

A BIG thanks to Pete from Minspeed for this newfound, permanent grin that has developed as a result of this latest mod!

  1. Next Minspeed Dyno Day should be around May. I plan to put Scooter back on the rollers and see if I can squeeze out 188whp. Stay tuned!

  2. Are you trying to catch up with me? may need to do something about that myself! Have fun with your Pulley-scooter

  3. I can’t wait till you brake the 200whp, Perdo.
I would like 180 with the MCC.
That would be one fast convertible!

  4. Looks awesome. Just what I was wanting to know. I’m sure Taya was telling you about her new love in life, and I think it needs this, like yesterday. I love the little guy, but he needs more power. Getting into this thing after my speed3 kinda makes me 🙁 until it’s time to turn it.

  5. Pretty sure Tom is dead set on getting this lil pulley. He doesnt think the MCS has enough get up and go power. So we will see what he plans to do to my car… I am wondering why i bought the extra warrenty

  6. How’s the mileage with the pulley changed? I’ve been thinking about doing the same to my car.

  7. Mileage went down initially due to my lead foot wanting to have fun :). It is stabilized though.
