Our good friend Pete over at Minspeed released an announcement that should be of interest to quite a few MINI owners:

I am pleased to announce that Minspeed has been appointed as a TireRack Distributor. If there is anything we can do for you related to “anything TireRack”, feel free to contact us.

We are very pleased to be associated with TireRack, the largest mailorder tire and wheel distributor in the industry. We are here to serve the MINI community but if you want to shod any other vehicle, we’ll help you with that one too!

Thanks for your continued support!

MC2: 100% Carbon-Fiber MINI Body Kit & Custom MINI Garage Cabinets

If youíre following the trends in the MINI world, you may have noticed that with the expiration of the 4-year factory warranty, the hunger for more power is coming of age fast. In addition to the older, trusted names in our brand of Alta, M7, Detroit Tuned and others, have come Dinan and newer companies like EvolutionMini, T.C. Kline (a major name in BMW tuning for many years) and Thumper Performance. (Others weíll soon make public, as weíre still under a non-disclosure agreement with a few companies coming to market)

AirborneMini

There are several bodykit builders in Europe of reasonable quality, but AirborneMini (www.airbornemini.com) is the first company actually operating weíve spoken with on the re-styling of the first-generation MINI. The best part is they are bringing to market a 100% carbon-fiber kit of several pieces in a wide-body styling for about $3,500. This pummels the usual fiberglass kits from Europe or the UK for less cost, plus itís made in California, so shipping is minimal and import fees are negated.

Suspension Project – Part 2: ALTA Sway Bar & SPC Control Arms

I already covered my brake, wheel and tire upgrades in part one of ìThe MotoringFun Suspension Projectî which shaved off a few pounds and enhanced grip and stopping power, so now it is time to take the next step – reducing the understeer characteristics of the car and improving the stability during high speed cornering.

These goals will remain constant through the remainder of the project. Others may be introduced as we go, but for this installment understeer is the main thing I wanted to correct. For this reason, the ALTA 19mm rear adjustable sway bar was selected.

Suspension Project – Part 1: Brakes, Wheels and Tires

If you saw the Minspeed (formerly MyMini) Dyno Day articles and the Minspeed pulley review, you know that I have made some engine performance upgrades to my 2006 MINI Cooper S. What you may not know is that I have also been working on upgrading the way my MINI handles as well. Over the past few months I have upgraded various parts of the MINI’s suspension (from brakes to coilovers). I plan to cover these upgrades in a series we will call – “The MotoringFun Suspension Project”. For this first article, I will cover the first 3 changes that were made – brakes, wheels and tires.

You-ification for First-Generation MINIs

Last week we mentioned the new combined MINI Motoring Accessories / MINI MotoringGear brochure which contained accessories for the new second-generation MINIs. Well, MINI USA hasn’t forgotten about the owners of 2002-2006 Coopers and Cooper Ss, and 2002-present MINI Convertibles. They just released the MINI Motoring Accessories You-ification Workbook, so pick one up at your nearest MINI dealer.

Review: Minspeed 15% Pulley

For those who don’t know, last month I pulled the trigger on the next logical step in the search for more power under the bonnet – the Minspeed 15% supercharger pulley. If you recall, back at the Minspeed (MyMini) Winter Dyno Day, my 2006 MINI Cooper S was upgraded from stock status to modded status with the addition of the JCW intake and JCW exhaust with the Minspeed resonator eliminator. Those two mods put a grin on my face from the increased torque and enhanced sound, but nothing can compare to what was to follow next. Enter the pulley…

MINI Offers Portable Navigation System

For 2007, MINI USA has combined the MINI Motoring Accessories and MotoringGear brochures into a single brochure called “The Fully Authorized, Utterly Definitive & Largely Unabridged Motorer’s Guide to the You-niverse”. Inside are many new accessories, but perhaps the most interesting is the new MINI Portable Navigation System powered by Garmin. The unit has a 3.5″ touchscreen and suction-cup dash mount. It includes maps and points-of-interest information for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico pre-loaded. The spoken text interface calls out your turns, and yes, you can choose to have it speak with a British accent. As a bonus, the MINI Portable Navigation System includes an MP3 player, audiobook reader, photo viewer, and world clock and currency converter. You can expand the capabilities by adding an SD memory card to its slot. Last but not least, it uses Bluetooth to wirelessly connect to Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.

Beyond the external MINI branding, this GPS unit displays a small MINI on map. The MINI icon is fully customizable, you can choose the body and roof color and even add a Union Jack or checkerboard roof graphic. No other unit allows you to do that.

The MINI Portable Navigation System retails for $750. The MINI part number is 65 90 0 429 399.

MyMini Is Now Minspeed

In case you haven’t noticed recent posts referring to MyMini as Minspeed, here is the reason behind the name change. While it is sad that BMW/MINI has chosen this course of action, I am confident that Pete will emerge from this better than ever. I personally want to thank Pete for his support, both locally with our MINI club, and with MotoringFun.com. He is a class act and I am sure others will agree that his customer service is paramount to his success. I wish Pete the best in this new journey and look forward to what new things await us. Motor On!

Minspeed by MyMini

At the behest of BMW-MINI legal counsel, we are changing our name to Minspeed (www.minspeed.net), Effective February 25, 2007.

No reason to give the details here but are willing to comply with the request since we have a good relationship with mini.

The change is in name only and will not be a change in ownership, location or operations.

We appreciate the response we’ve had from our clients worldwide and will continue to bring you the finest products we can offer mini owners. With the change will come more, new and interesting items, including our new R56 additions and bespoke built cars.

I thank you all for your kind words and support of MyMini these past few years but i’m looking forward to taking on new challenges and what the future will bring us all!
